IP based drowsiness detector for Real Driving Conditions

This paper presents a method for detecting driver drowsiness, based on computer vision. The system uses a small monochrome security camera that placed in front of the driver in a car and points directly towards the driver’s face and obtain drowsiness clues from their percentage of eye closure (PERCLOS). A fatigue detection system is designed based on the result of the face/eye detection or the pupil of the eyeball to alert the driver by determining whether the driver in the fatigue condition or not. In such a case when fatigue is detected, a warning signal is issued to alert the driver and thus prevent the possible accidents. This paper describes how to find the eyes, and also how to determine if the eyes are open or closed.
